A guide to your Dyson Gen5outsize™ cordless vacuum

A guide to your Dyson Gen5outsize™ cordless vacuum

FAQs about the LCD screen

Why do some bars move higher or faster than others?

The particle count is a scientific measurement of the debris in your bin. Each bar represents a different size of dust particle. The bars rise faster when more debris of that size is vacuumed.

What happens on your screen as you begin your clean?

When beginning your clean, your screen categorizes particles into four size groups: Microscopic, Fine, Medium and Coarse.

How do I know when my floor area is clean?

The bars on the graph will slow down and turn green to show that less debris is being picked up, letting you know your area is clean

Why are different coloured bars shown in different modes?

Blue bars are only visible when using your machine in Auto mode, since this represents a high volume of particles with automatically increased suction.

When using any other power mode, you will only see two colours: white and green. White bars show a medium to high volume of particles. Green bars show a low volume of particles.

What power mode do we recommend using?

We recommend Auto mode for the best experience. Suction power automatically increases when higher concentrations of dust are detected. Once the dust is removed, power returns to normal to conserve the battery.

What happens on your screen after your clean?

At the end of your clean, the screen displays a summary of the particles that have been removed. Giving you scientific proof of a deep clean.

Does the particle count work with all tools?

Yes. The graph works independently of the attachments, and can be used with all cleaner heads, tools and accessories.

How can you reset the particle count?

You can reset the particle count by stopping the machine for 10 minutes, removing the battery, or putting the machine on charge. Each time the particle count will reset to zero.

FAQs about the cleaner heads

Can I use the Fluffy Optic™ cleaner head on all floor types?

The Fluffy Optic™ cleaner head is optimised to perform on any smooth, hard floors.

Why can't I use this cleaner head on carpet?

The Fluffy Optic™ cleaner head uses illumination technology engineered specifically for hard floors. The illumination does not work on carpets.

How does Digital Motorbar™ XL cleaner head technology de-tangle hair?

The de-tangling comb on the brush bar has 56 polycarbonate teeth to prevent tangling around the bristles. The comb is always in contact with the brush bar as it spins to prevent wrapping, so hair is sucked straight into the bin.

Does the Digital Motorbar™ XL cleaner head work on pet hair?

The Digital Motorbar™ XL cleaner head technology has been developed by Dyson to suck up long hair and pet hair fast. We tested the technology in the lab using international standard test to represent pet hair.

FAQs about the battery

How long does the battery take to fully charge?

A full charge takes up to 4.5 hours.

How will I know if the run time is getting low?

Run time is displayed on the LCD screen, and your machine will pulse three times to alert you if it's getting low.

Can I charge my batteries on and off my machine?

Yes, your swappable battery packs can be charged on or off your machine, on or off the dock.

What's the best way to use an additional battery?

We recommend alternating your batteries regularly to prolong battery health.

Can I leave my vacuum on charge?

Yes, the battery is designed to be left on charge, to ensure your vacuum is ready for the next use.

Should I charge my vacuum after every use?

We recommend charging your machine after every clean to maximise run time.

How will I know if there's a blockage in my vacuum?

Your machine will pulse seven times to alert you if there's a blockage. You can follow the animated guide on your LCD screen to clear it.

How often should I clean the filter?

The LCD screen on your machine will remind you when it's time to clear your filter. This will usually be around once a month, but may be more frequent if you use your machine more heavily. After cleaning the filter, always leave it to dry for at least 24 hours. You must ensure it's completely dry before refitting. We recommend following the cleaning instructions and cleaning by hand. The filter is not suitable for dishwasher use.
